About

A bagpipe competition is an event where solo bagpipers or pipe bands perform and are judged on musical skill, technical execution, and presentation. It can be compared with recitals. Solo competitors and bands are grouped by grades (from beginner to professional) to ensure fair competition among similar skill levels. Within a grade, soloists compete in different tune categories (Piobaireachd (Pibroch, classical bagpipe music), march and dance tunes).

Solo Competitions (10am - 1pm)
Individual pipers perform selected tunes, showcasing their technical prowess and musical expression. Judging focuses on tune selection, technique, and overall performance.

Pipe Band Competitions (2pm - 2:40pm)
Groups of pipers and drummers (pipe bands) perform synchronized arrangements, being judged on ensemble cohesion, arrangement quality, and performance precision.
